Community Health Needs Assessment

In January 2000, the Department of Health and Human Services
launched Healthy People 2010, a comprehensive, nationwide health
promotion and disease prevention agenda. That initiative
contained objectives designed to serve as guidelines for improving
the health of the American people. The Department of Health
and Human Services has since moved to a new initiative called
Healthy People 2020.
On March 23, 2010 a new mandate was added to the Patient
Protection and Affordable Care Act requiring hospitals to conduct a
"community needs assessment" and adopt an "implementation strategy"
to meet the needs identified by the assessment/survey at least once
every three years.
Providing quality healthcare to the Greater Passaic
Community for over a century, St. Mary's Hospital is committed to
ensuring that a full continuum of high-quality, coordinated health
and human services are readily accessible to those who live in its
service area.
