New Patient Computers at the Bedside

In July 2012, St. Mary's launched a new program which will radically improve the patient experience. Through the use of Mediavision, a company based in managing the patient experience, interactive patient bedside systems have been installed in several patient rooms.  These state-of-the-art, touch screen computers will provide a wide variety of entertainment functions including basic and cable television, popular movies, audio books, music stations, games as well as full internet browsing and social media apps such as Facebook and Twitter.  Attached to the screen is a telephone which will provide unlimited local and long distance calls.  In addition, the bedside computer also has a web cam which can be used for long distance video chats with family members or even the patient's physician.  All these services are available to the patient at the nominal cost of $10/day.  Now only available on 5 West, these patient entertainment systems will be fully rolled out hospital-wide by the end of this year and will include patient food orders to Nutrition Care Services and a patient education function.
